MAUK's in-house research into a voice-first AI assistant for the Windows desktop. It listens, sees the screen, remembers, schedules and automates, runs on the user's own machine, and always shows what it is really doing.

The problem

What needed solving

A personal AI that runs all day has to survive a crash at 4am, give memory and processing power back when nobody is talking to it, and never pretend to be listening or working when it isn't.

The solution

What we built

A desktop assistant with an always-on status card, a control window and voice interaction, built as a long-running research platform for MAUK's agent work.

  • Tasks and reminders that survive the window closing
  • Memory stored on the machine only, searchable in your own words
  • Nothing sensitive happens without the user's explicit permission

Why it works

  1. 01

    Honest by construction

    The status card can only show what the assistant is actually doing. It has no way to fake listening.

  2. 02

    Recovers on its own, within limits

    Parts that fail restart automatically, and if they keep failing the assistant stops and says so rather than looping.

  3. 03

    Light when idle

    Features that aren't in use step back and release the computer's resources until they are needed.

  4. 04

    Private by default

    Always-listening is off out of the box, and memory never leaves the machine.
